Like a Guided Missile: How to Get Out of Bed

Joe’s alarm clock wakes him up early. He immediately feels that familiar aching in his chest: dread and discomfort.

“I have to go to work.” he thinks to himself.

He groans and hits the snooze button, retreating to a few more minutes of comfort.

Finally, the urgency of the day is enough that he is forced from bed.

He tries an affirmation looking in the mirror, “Ok, we’re going to make this a great day!” But he knows he doesn’t really believe it.

He showers, brushes his teeth, picks out some clothes and grabs a quick breakfast, makes a cup of coffee and he’s out the door.

He tries to get himself into a good mood by the time he gets to work, putting on a “fake it til you make it smile” and trying to focus. His mood improves some but he still wishes he were doing something else.

Sound familiar? I hope not, but if it does I can help.

Why isn’t Joe feeling powerful and alive first thing in the morning?

The answer is that Joe has not chosen his dream or his destiny.

Joe may be destined for something great, but he is not aware of it. And since he’s not aware of it he doesn’t know if he’s moving forward or not.
